As investor excitment around AI/ML and LLMs such as Chat GPT is beginning to meet the reality that monitizing the technology may take longer than anticipated, attention has been shifting to the "next big thing", Quantum Computers. 60 Minutes recently ran a story about the technology and D-Wave Systems, IBM, Google and others are investing heavily to commercialze the technology.
How should long term investors position themselves for this new and emerging technology? Does it face the same risk of disappointing investors as fusion and the investments from Bill Gates in small nuclear such as TerraPower....always twenty years in the future? Who will program these machines? Will scientists be able to explain how they work or will they scratch their heads and stare blankly into the camera as they do when asked to explain how ML deep learning works to reach a conclusion?
Here are some problems Quantum computers can SOLVE.
